This type of betting originated in Indonesia and is popular across Asia. That is why it’s called ‘Asian’.
To explain the Asian Handicap Betting System, we will use two examples: Over/Under 0.5 goals, and Over/Under 0.75 goals.
For Over/Under 0.5 Goals, The asian handicap is set at half a goal. This means that if you choose the Over 0.5 bet, then all that is required to win, is one of the teams scoring a single goal. In the same manner, if you bet on Under 0.5, then you expect that no goals will be scored in the match.
For 0.75, this is a quarter goal handicap and is a bit more complex.
Here is how to think about these: Split your quarter handicap bet into two separate bets. One bet is for a full goal, and one is for a half goal. For the 0.75 bet, you can imagine you have two bets: Half your stake is on the 0.5 handicap and the other half on the 1 goal handicap.
If you bet on Over 0.75, a total score of 0 is a loss and 2 or more is a win. If the total score is 1, then the half of your bet that is over 0.5 wins, and the half that is over 1 is a push. Therefore, you receive half of the expected win amount. The table below will show the outcomes for some common bets.
